Holiday Party

The annual “Holiday Party” – ugh!  The announcement specifically states that one is not obligated to attend.  Yeah, right…  I mentally prepare myself by focusing on a splendid evening with colleagues who I consider friends.  But the reality of the whole affair (based on prior experience) sits just under the surface.  The underlying resentment toward management who try to charm us with their witty senses of humor.  The same individuals who decide to invite us to extravagant holiday parties rather than to include us in the annual bonuses that they so lavishly dole upon themselves.  Do they have any idea the cost of a cocktail dress (and accessories)  suitable for said occasion?

I check the weather for the Friday night bash and see a winter weather advisory. Yes! Snow would be the easy way out. It appears I will receive a holiday bonus after all.

  1. Yeah I can imagine the terrible feeling of paying for an expensive cocktail dress and attending these parties where people pretend to like each. Snow’s definitely the easy way out. I’m glad the protagonist got her bonus!

  2. Perfect line at the end. We used to have our annual holiday party at a VFW and it was a potluck. I used to go to hear the speeches at the end, because one of the bigwigs sounded sincere when he said, “You make us look good.” That bit of acknowledgment outweighed (almost) all of the bs we had to put up with from the overlords all year.
