A shy child she was
Head down among strangers
Eyes peeking up through long lashes
A large stuffed lion tucked under her arm
The only friend to whom she spoke
The toy frayed and the child grew
She became the lion
Standing her ground
Roaring against injustice
Asserting herself on behalf of the meek
Gifting children plush lions

I loved the contrast between the first and second paragraphs. She really became someone bold and special. Beautiful poetry.
