It is winter, yet this young maple tree has mistaken the relatively mild weather for spring. The birds love the tender blooms and the rare insect that buzzes about.
Here in the southeast
New beginnings start early
Yet cold clouds will come

Wow! I’ve heard from a few poets in the UK saying their trees are trying to bloom as well. It’s sleeting here in Mid-Michigan and the temperature hovers around 33 F. Your haibun is lovely. I like how the haiku doesn’t repeat what you already said. “New beginnings” really makes your haibun sing! xx

Jenn, I really like the contrast between winter and spring signs in a young maple tree. The imagery is vivid, and the haiku succinctly captures the essence of early beginnings and the return of cold clouds. Well-done conveying the fleeting nature of these seasonal moments!

Jennifer, it is mind-boggling that the tree is in bloom at this time of year! We’re living in interesting times.

I know! We were hunkering down today with monsoon-like rains and tornado warnings.

This is great, Jennifer! Only we follow a calendar. Nature and animals follow their instincts.
