Captured by the folly of my inner monologue;
Incessant chatter, often set on repeat.
Oh, I’m aware of its presence.
I desperately urge it to quiet down;
Else, refocus my attention and attempt to ignore it.
That works, temporarily…
“Just let it go…,” say the mindfulness experts;
Ha!
Tell it to the entity residing in my head.
W3 Prompt #104: Wea’ve Written Weekly poet of the week, Ben Tonkin, prompts:
From free verse to haiku…
This 'folly', be up to you!
Can't wait to read how you do.
Your inspiration is 'folly'.

Sounds like you have plenty of mind-full-ness! Hope you get some rest, or at least some good ideas from the entity.

Very true – more like a cacophony than a monologue. Thank you, Nigel!😊

Jennifer this is such a true ‘slice of life’ and I could relate! Sometimes it is folly to block it out and other times it is folly to listen!
