Autumn Winds

Crimson maple trees line dormant fields;
their vibrant leaves release in soft autumn breezes,
scattering onto somber ground.

Goldenrods wave enthusiastically
in the crisp autumn winds,
greeting regal aspens
showy in their matching yellow foliage.

Vacant summer homes sit
as hostile witnesses;
cold wind gusts
beat upon their hollow cores,
foretelling the inevitable.

  1. I love the strong colours in your poem, Jennifer, and the sound in the sibilant ‘scattering onto somber ground’. I think ‘vacant summer homes’ and, here on the North Norfolk coast the empty B&Bs, are very sad.
