Revolving Doors

Time passes from hours to decades
Routines alter to fit the times
Another generation takes over and then another
Nothing exists without change
Slow to evolve are us humans
Forging our way through revolving doors
Out to a new era and in to the same mistakes
Revolutionizing the external world
Matters little to internal transformation
Acts deemed as progress
Turn to stepping stones for destruction
Insightful action requires time and thought
Our fight or flight tendencies don’t allow
Now is the time to exit the revolving door

W3 Prompt #156: Wea’ve Written Weekly poet of the week, Carol Anne, prompts us to write an acrostic poem using the word “transformation.”

  1. I like your take on Transformation—although I’m always wary when a piece mirrors my thinking this precisely. Sometimes transformation needs friction, not just affirmation.
Allowing for that, your take on TRANSFORMATION offers a stark meditation on the cyclical nature of human behaviour. It begins with the passage of time and the inevitability of generational change, yet pivots quickly to critique how little we truly evolve—appropriate for the times we find ourselves in. The poet contrasts the surface-level revolutions of society with a deeper need for internal change—unattainable, it suggests, while we remain trapped in instinctual, reactive modes.

The image of the revolving door is a powerful symbol: we exit one era only to re-enter its mistakes. Transformation, then, is not about novelty, but about breaking the cycle—perhaps even ripping the door off its hinge or greater forces than us will do it for us.

  2. Jennifer I love this one! We do seem to be on a course of self destruction. Our ability to adapt has been our saving grace for eons but I fear we have reached a point where adaptability may just fail us!
