Ripened finally
Time for harvesting is now
All at once it comes
Way too much of a good thing
Creativity
Is required in the kitchen
A love-hate relationship
Abundance of figs
Hang heavily on the tree
A curse and reward
Consumed fresh, dried, stewed and baked
Perhaps I should learn to can

I have only ever had the privilege to eat a fresh fig once. Yum.

How interesting! I don’t believe I’ve had figs other than in a Christmas fruit cake! Are they a mess when they ripen? They look like small pears. I’m intrigued. This was a fun double tanka, Jennifer.

Thank you, Colleen! They are messy and go rancid quickly once they ripen, unless dried or cooked.

How interesting. Now, I have to see if I can find some to try. Thanks, Jennifer.

Hehe! Here it will be tomatoes! We will have buckets of them and I’ll be forced to make sauce, stewed, and whole tomatoes in jars and some frozen in double freezer bags! Of course the alternative is to give them away but that usually involves a trade for zucchini!!

Yes, trading is an excellent option. Ratatouille anyone!

I love figs- fresh and dried, in milkshakes, dry fruit salad, salads and plain. I like them as long as I don’t think how they come about :). Lovely poem on figs. Do they grow in your garden?
