Oh my, dragonfly
Patiently awaiting prey
Unaware insects
Upon the flowers they feast
‘Til scooped up by the skimmer

Nicely done, Jennifer. I enjoyed the visual of a dragonfly scooping up it’s victims.

Jennifer, very nicely done tanka. At least they enjoy life until getting chomped on.

I remember the colorful dragon flies I used to see when we lived in Florida. This was a delightful poem. A skimmer dragonfly, or a skimmer bird? I wasn’t sure.

Your lovely poem made me realize we don’t have dragonflies in the high desert. I grew up with them, but here – I haven’t seen any. 🌞

Thank you! I wonder if there are less insects generally. I believe dragonflies have quite an appetite.
