In Season

At the farmers market
Fresh produce have we
Organic options too
Fruits and vegetables
Oh so good for you
Nutrition at its finest
Comes at a hefty price
But defrays the cost of disease
Which really is quite nice

Black-Crowned Night Herons

So, I cheated a bit… I love the thrill of finding and photographing birds in the wild, but I couldn’t resist “capturing” these black-crowned night herons in an aviary at Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina. They are native to the area.

Italian Balconies

Tantalizing scents
Mingle with ocean breezes
Garlic and basil
Waft from balconies ajar
Signaling time for dinner

Boats Afloat

They float on vast oceans
rivers and lakes
Glide smooth on calm waters
or leave behind wakes
Shoreside observers
find themselves feel
the gravitational pull
of a boat’s appeal

Melting

Smoldering heat bakes
Clothes strewn leaves sweat beaded skin
Hope for a cool breeze

Seasonwords Week 30: “Major Heat” by Mark S.

The featured photo was taken at beautiful Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. The bronze sculptures are collectively called “The Saint James Triad” by Richard McDermott Miller (1922-2004).

Bouquet

A mind well nourished
Quietly observes
Its inner voice heard
Its own nature examined
Thoughts flow in turbulent waters
Snatching at bits of light
Insights bloom into truths
Each a unique flower
Perfectly placed in a creative bouquet

Urban Stimulation

I seek urban stimulation
Though I’m not a city player
Cherished time spent lost in nature
Brings a sense of isolation
Though I’m not a city player
I seek urban stimulation

W3 Prompt #117: Wea’ve Written Weekly poet of the week, Sadje, prompts us to write a biolet on the theme love/hate:

The Biolet is a six line poem; the first two lines are repeated as the last two lines, however in reverse.

The rhyme scheme can be expressed as ABbaBA (with the capital letters representing the repeated lines).

The length of the lines can be in iambic tetrameter (8 syllables), iambic pentameter (10 syllables), iambic hexameter (12 syllables), or in unmetered lines of random lengths.
