Heavy Burden

I carry the world upon my shoulder
Its burdens on my back
Faith carries me forward
Though I cannot continue on faith alone
Grant me a sliver of evidence
Empirical proof
That I am on the right track
Then my load shall be lightened

Cavern

Blackest of black
Subterranean hideaway
Water trickling
Damp and slick
Torchlight
Revealing shades of brown
Skittering shadows
Grotesque faces in rock

Ice Melt

Ice
Melting
Drips dropping
Rivulets merge
Into riverflow
Slipping over boulders
Descending mountain channels
Winding through the verdant valleys
Melted ice frolicking in the sun
Dancing to the toe tapping summer rain
Glacier water mingling with playful raindrops
Flowing through picturesque towns and mammoth cities
Tasting salt – tidewaters enthusiastic greeting
Icemelt tumbling
Churning soft sand
Open water
Flowing freely
Rising upward
Waving goodbye

W3 Prompt #70: Wea’ve Written Weekly’s poet of the week Elizabeth prompts us to: “…write a poem in “Tree of Life” poetic form about changes, impermanence, and strength.”

Transformation

Milkweed with Monarch Caterpillar
A caterpillar
Does not question its purpose
Peaceably munching
Its transformation will come
Without force or objective

Prompted by Eugi’s Moonwashed Weekly Prompt – Peaceable and Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge (FOTD)

Magical Moon

A restless night plagued by deep thought. I rise from bed and make my way outside, barefeet rooted to damp ground. Looking to the heavens, I am greeted by a super moon. The source of my agitation having roused my inner sea.

Magical blue moon
Bestow your power on me
You can move oceans

dVerse host Frank prompts us to: “Write a haibun that alludes to the Super Blue Moon.”

Cracks

Such a beautiful building you once were
Host to many a party
Home to many a family
I must remind myself
Don't dwell on what has passed away
You were not all perfection
Host to many a tragedy
Home to many a sufferer
I must remind myself
There is a crack, a crack in everything
Disrupting the very foundation of existence
That's how the light gets in
Illuminating space for transformation

W3 Prompt #69: Wea’ve Written Weekly poet of the week Ange, prompts us to write a poem using two to three lines from Leonard Cohen’s (1934 – 2016) ‘Anthem’.

I chose:

“Don’t dwell on what has passed away…
There is a crack, a crack in everything…
That’s how the light gets in”

A Tanka: Japanese Anemone

Nonnative flower
Chastising barbs to myself
It should not be here
Yet it is so beautiful
Pollen praised by honeybees.
