Books and Poetry
A firestorm ignites -
words pour forth;
affording order in chaos;
an outlet amid tragedy.
Flames fueled by grief
spawn phrases through smoke.
Vehement inferno diminishes with time;
residual embers refuse to be extinguished;
kindling for composition.
W3 Prompt #65: Wea’ve Written Weekly’s poet of the week, Sadje, prompts us to write a poem about: “‘What inspires you to write?’ or: ‘What inspires you to write poetry?’” This poem is really more about what inspired me to begin writing.

Prompted by Cee’s CMMC – July: Alphabet any word that has two “M”s and Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge (FOTD).

Midday sustenance
Placed upon a checkered cloth
Spread atop a hill
Shaded by an ancient tree
Pristine lake below
Serene cows grazing green grass
A warm summer breeze
Provides the stench of cow dung
Unappetizing picnic
A picture worth a thousand words may still only tell half the story.
Prompted by Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge No. 330 to write an ekphrastic poem in syllabic form, inspired by the depicted image.
I chose to write a Choka followed by an American Sentence.
Enticing channel of brackish water
Flanked by lush greenery
Impeding travel by foot
Wildlife touches the water’s surface
From above and below
Tempting me to join the dance.
Shall I explore by kayak?
Contemplating the rising tide -
And what may exist around the bend…
Prompted by dVerse host, De at whimsygizmo.Wordpress.com, to write a Quadrille (44 words) using the word (or form of) water. Quadrille #180: Pouring Out Our Poems

Prompted by Terri’s Sunday Stills: #Double Delights

Prompted by Denzil’s Nature Photo Challenge #21: Waterplants
You materialize out of nowhere!
Startling me
With your ominous warning call
Darkening the mid-afternoon sky
Vexing the trees that arch and sway in unison
Generating showy bolts of lightning.
Transfixed
I stare out the window
As fat drops of rain splat the windowpane
I should retreat - safely shelter
But I find your sheer power bewitching.
W3 Prompt #64: Wea’ve Written Weekly’s poet of the week, Sylvia Cognac, prompts us to write: “a poem of any style and any length on the topic of ‘Power’.”
‘So Many Shadormi’, a shadorma by Sylvia Cognac.
An indulgent little bird, excellently posed
Perched atop a dead tree branch, gazing at the marsh
As a strange figure whispers, quietly below
Her camera poised in hand: “Please don’t fly away.”
