Divorcing Myself

Finding my true essence
I shall divorce myself
From others’ expectations
In a world of programming
It is difficult to know who I truly am
Influencers pull in all directions
Family, friends and cool strangers
Examining my beliefs and setting myself free
After all of these years
Does it matter so much?
Relax and laugh at it all

W3 Prompt #89: Wea’ve Written Weekly’s poet of the week, Aboli, prompts us to:

“Write a reverse poem. A reverse poem can be read forward and backward (top to bottom or bottom to top, line by line). The meaning of the poem changes depending on the direction you read it in.”

  1. Jennifer, the progression from external influences to inner authenticity is so skillfully depicted in your poem. The lines “Examining my beliefs and setting myself free” encapsulate the essence of personal growth! This is wonderful 🙂

  2. You made this look like a walk in the park. The process of deconstructing the world that has been built around us to find your little patch of individuality… independence… Marvellous. 🙏💜
