Smoldering heat quashed
Submerged in cool marsh water
‘Til distant sun dips
Midsummer darkness beckons
Rocking fine waterside chair
Shadows of the night
Tall reeds silhouette against
Star sparkled water
No cutting the grass out there
Immersed in protective brine

Jennifer, your double tanka are so expressive. I noticed the midsummer darkness is a bit different than at other times of the year. You describe it perfectly!

I’m happy the grass found a place where humans can leave it alone. Such pretty imagery in this with
Shadows of the night
Tall reeds silhouette against
Star sparkled water
