A Veteran

He dwelled in darkness
Home from Vietnam
The woop woop of helicopter blades
Reverberated in his head
Long after he was grounded
Nightmares suppressed by intoxicants
Unable to escape addiction
From rock bottom
A shimmer of light
A ray of hope
He grabbed hold and pulled
Out of despair
Into the arms of his family
Who waited so long
For him to come home
