Long path winding to destination unknown
Strongly compels with temptation unknown
Deep rooted trees attentively guide roadside
Gnarly cheerleaders through motivation unknown
Each tentative step intuitively follows another
Tired feet persevere with determination unknown
Invisible skittering critters crunch forest underbrush
Each spy through curious investigation unknown
Long winding path disappointingly runs a full circle
Jen ends at the start — her transformation unknown
W3 Prompt #171: Wea’ve Written Weekly, poet of the week, Deanna, prompts us to write a ghazal on a theme of our choice.
dVerse Poetics “Let’s Take a Walk in the Woods, Shall We?,” hosted by Lillian.
Jennifer, this is quietly haunting, a reflective take on journey, purpose, and the ambiguity of change – lovely 🙌

This has such a quietly mysterious vibe, Jen. That “gnarly cheerleaders” line kinda gave me both a smile and a shiver.

This is lovely. I wish there was a physical transformation that took place when walking in nature. I think it would be so much more attractive then. I really enjoyed this. I chose to combine these two prompts too!

The repetition of unknown is very effective, Jennifer, and adds to the mystery, especially combined with the deep rooted trees and invisible skittering critters.

So many unknowns! Isn’t it funny where we end up sometimes? That was quite a romp! Your poem fits that photo so well.

“Gnarly cheerleaders through motivation unknown”—this is such a cool line.
“Each tentative step intuitively follows another
Tired feet persevere with determination unknown”—it’s often like this, I think.
