Pause for Tea

Every morning
from the side window I see
you fervently gardening

Won’t you pause for tea?

Every afternoon
from the front window I see
you hustle along the sidewalk
sacks hanging from arms

Won’t you pause for tea?

One day you will
knock upon my door

I wait…

The teapot is ready
The table set for two

Join me for tea!

Week 21 haiku invitation by Mark S. at Seasonwords.com is to “write about a seasonal insect.”

Tree Swallow

Black shadow set against morning sun;
flitting, flapping, flying
in my direction.

A glint of blue
before fleeing skyward.

Swirling, soaring, swooping,
skimming the pond
by which I stand.

Looping, lifting, landing
in a nearby tree.

W3 Prompt #108: Wea’ve Written Weekly poet of the week, Suzanne, prompts us to: “Compose a poem that conveys ‘Movement’, using repetition to move your ideas and imagery forward. You may use repetition in many different ways – repeating sounds, syllables, words, phrases, lines, etc.”

A Gentle Nudge

Drawn to the weeds in my flower garden.  Frustrated to find them there, yet again.  I get down on my knees and start pulling, oblivious to my surroundings. What I really require is a little nudge – a gentle reminder of the blooming flowers that surround my head.  Flowers that will soon wither without acknowledgement.  I don’t want to miss a single bloom.

Life passes quickly
Sweet moments hide in plain sight
Remember to look

A Haibun: Portable Gardens

Spotted Calla Lily

I love being surrounded by plants and flowers.  When two kittens adopted me, I had to move my “toxic” plants into a closed room. The weather has warmed enough to bring them outdoors for the summer.  The pots get heavier each season.

No fresh cut flowers
In vases on the table
Curious felines
Gardens indoors and outdoors
Transition with the seasons

Ruffled Feathers

Mocking Bird attacking Red-Shouldered Hawk
I feel that you are mocking me
Shrill shrieks
Threateningly
Trying to knock me down
Attempting to ignore thee
I find my feathers ruffling
You won’t let me be
Feeling pressured
Forced to flee
Red-Shouldered Hawk
(with ruffled feathers)
