Why would one portray us so?
Surely better than this we know
Landlubbers we have always been
(Unless circumstances require a swim)
But nary a day that you shall see
Cats boating voluntarily

Rising temperatures
Spring rains have fallen, stopped and fallen again
Sun shines brightly through parting clouds
Wildflowers peek out of too long grasses
Pollen collecting insects called
Intent on propagation
Before the lawn mower takes them down

A complex puzzle
I find myself analyzing each piece
Shifting this one
Transforming that one
Finding the altered pieces don't mesh
A fragmented stranger
I allow the pieces to return to their original state
Observe them come together
A perplexing yet perfect whole
Accepting what is
W3 Prompt #100: Wea’ve Written Weekly’s poet of the week, Suzanne Brace, prompts us to write an introspective poem on the theme of ‘stranger.’
Early mornings quite chipper
‘Round the tree tops they flitter
Puddle bathing they chitter
Pleasing warmth where they winter
This is a Filipino Tanaga form prompted by Val’s (aka Murisopsis) Looking at Poems Around the World: “4 lines with 7 syllables per line and written as a monorhyme.”

What lies beyond the gate?
Sealed to outsiders
The wall too high to peer over
Frustrating the curious spectator

Enchanting spring day
I rise in the tranquil dawn
Cool mist surrounds me
Sunrays warming skin
Cotton clouds dot deep blue sky
Deft birds enter clouds
Peaceful spring evening
Surrenders to chirping frogs
Hazy moon tunes in

Blooms from my backyard peach trees stand-in for cherry blossoms. Each spring I admire them with reverence. Each summer I curse them for their failure to produce edible fruit. The bees and squirrels don’t complain.
Absent cherry blooms
Peach blossoms pleasingly serve
Lovely spring display

The patio peach tree produces small, inedible fruit.
The featured image is a true peach tree. It does produce edible fruit, but I refuse to use chemicals necessary to prevent fungus and pests in the high summer humidity.
