Skin of brown, red or yellow
Sure to be a targeted fellow
(or woman or child)
We do not discriminate
Each to get their fair share of hate
Cross the border and you will see
The ICE men can imprison thee
(in another country, of course)
Even with valid documentation
Maybe while you are on vacation
It doesn’t matter if legal or innocent
You may be deported (even if you’re a citizen)

I cannot help but wonder how many livelyhoods are being lost as these poor people sit in detention- only for it to be proven they have every right to be here. And I say that in addition to mourning those we have failed by our untouchable citizenship requierments. Wonderful piece.

You know you hate to laugh at these contrast poems but they are quite funny to read being serious subject matter with all the rhyming! Even with valid documentation
Maybe while you are on vacation – this had me laughing so hard!

It is one of those laugh at the absurdity or cry at the injustice situations. I’m glad the humor came across. Thank you, Christine!

A dreadful situation in reality. Often making light of a serious situation gives it more impact owing to the fact that it cannot defeat you. As a result your foe fails to have power over you. A very Aussie attitude to setbacks and prevalent in our humour.

I don’t know any other way to approach such a situation. Thank you, Rall!

i hate that my country has come to this sickeningly backwards way of thinking, to a greater extent that is.

It is hard to imagine the fear now that thousands of people live in daily in the U.S. as they go about their daily lives. No longer “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”. Great response to the prompt.

‘You may be deported (even if you’re a citizen)’ is the line that hits hardest.
