Each broken bone
Each bloodied body part
A stark warning?
Message received
A rapid response
Abscond from the city
Prepare for a bucolic existence

Recurring Dream

Motion slow in a desperate run
Notion I’ve been here before
Ocean flows from subconscious stream
Emotion spills onto shore

Look for meaning in recurrent dream
Books and blogs are inconsistent
Good luck, omens, polar extremes
Outlook for answers is nonexistent

Thank you Melissa Lemay for selecting me as this week’s PoW for W3!

This is my poem in response to my own prompt for W3 Prompt #81: Wea’ve Written Weekly.

write a “lento”on the topic of dreams

  • Two quatrains (four-line stanzas) with a fixed rhyme scheme of abcb, defe, as the 2nd and 4th lines of each stanza must rhyme;
  • All the FIRST words of each verse should rhyme;

Thank you David for this fun and challenging weekly prompt showcasing different writers and styles!

Messenger of Peace

The dove was aloft
Doused by the cold frozen rain
The first month with sleet
Diverted from its mission
It seeks sustenance below

Soaring over homes
Searching for scarce seeds and grain
Late winter garden
A magnificent bounty
It fills its empty stomach

A feeling of warmth
Two figures sit together
Blanket by the fire
Sheltered from the pelting sleet
Awaiting message of peace

Clandestine Moon

I see you hiding in the shadows
A sliver illuminated in light
The sun reveals your secrets
Your clandestine antics
Won’t work tonight
Perhaps the clouds will grant you reprieve
As earth gets into position
To shield you fully
From the sun’s watchful glare

Gifting Lions

A shy child she was
Head down among strangers
Eyes peeking up through long lashes
A large stuffed lion tucked under her arm
The only friend to whom she spoke

The toy frayed and the child grew
She became the lion
Standing her ground
Roaring against injustice
Asserting herself on behalf of the meek
Gifting children plush lions

Intersecting Lines

Intersecting lines

And Dan’s Thursday Doors

Until Spring

Indian summer
Conquered by winter’s resolve
I sit quietly
Wrapped in a woolen blanket
While waves crash upon the shore

I rise from my perch
A final walk on the beach
Left behind till spring
Lone cold feet imprint the sand
Gulls cry lamentful goodbyes

I pass through sand dunes
Past sparkling freshwater ponds
Wild geese preen feathers
Indifferent to the chill
While I shiver in protest

RDP Wednesday – FOOTSTEPS

W3 Prompt #80: Wea’ve Written Weekly’s poet of the week Melissa prompts us to:

  • Compose a series of three tanka;
    • Following are three “turn lines” or “pivots” (third lines) for each of three tanka, and you must construct the rest:
      1. Turn / Pivot for tanka #1: “I sit quietly”
      2. Turn / Pivot for tanka #2: “Left behind till spring”
      3. Turn / Pivot for tanka #3: “Wild geese preen feathers”
    • These tanka are to be autumn/winter-themed;
    • You may write each of your tanka in a single unbroken line of thirty-one syllables, or you may use the five-line 5/7/5/7/7 approach.
