I was transfixed by the melody
A song I am certain I have never heard
Yet viscerally known to me
I intuited the lyrics before they were uttered
Mellifluous and soul-stirring
Perfectly entwined with my being
And in that moment, I swear we were infinite

Running in circles
Accomplishing nothing
Overwhelming anxiety
Unrealistic thought processes
Your complacency has cost you
We’ll have tea
Talk it over
Develop a feasible plan
Decision making in the midst of chaos
Are you there?
The teapot pours
But the pourer is absent

Autumn approaches
Southern warm breezes whisper
Cranes answer the call
Naturalist Weekly micro-season of “The Wagtail Calls”
“This week’s haiku invitation is to write a haiku or senryu that references a shorebird or water bird in autumn.”
I. J.’s Birds of the Week Invitation XXIX

Letting go is challenging
Adult children
Children with children
Invariably on my mind
Confronted with life’s struggles
Guidance provided - followed or ignored
Meaningful lessons are learned through experience
This I must remind myself
As they endeavor to find their way

Perfect purple puff
Pollinators paradise
Prolific produce
Beautiful bearer
Bird beaks bombard blooms’ best brood
Benevolent bliss
Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge (FOTD)
A lovely lazy Sunday morning with nothing to do but watch the day unfold. I indulge in a second cup of coffee, extracting the newspaper’s comic section. Knock, knock! Sigh… I open the front door with much trepidation and am handed an envelope by a twitchy courier. Stamped on the back is the distinctive hallmark I know so well. Do I dare open it?
